The structure of VAFA Division 1 has been confirmed for the 2018 season.
Hampton Rovers Football Club will compete in the fourth tier of the Amateurs for the first time since 2013 and will face some familiar rivals for the first time in a while.
With both local rivals Ormond and Oakleigh crashing out of the 2017 finals series, they remain in the section for next year while PEGS and St Mary’s are promoted to Premier C. The Hampton-Ormond rivalry is one of the best in the VAFA – being two of the most famous district club’s in the competition – and the prospect of the rivalry reigniting next year is mouth-watering.
St Johns and Whitefriars have been relegated to Division 2 while Kew come down from the Premier sections with the Rovers. Familiar opponents Therry Penola and Prahran Assumption are in the section and there’s some not so familiar opponents in Ivanhoe, Preston and West Brunswick. It’s also been a number of years since the Rovers faced Brunswick NOBSPC (formerly North Brunswick).
The Rovers will be working hard to prepare for a big pre-season and hit 2018 running, in a similar fashion to when the club last played in the section – the start of a successful era for the club resulting in back-to-back flags.
The club will field at least five teams in the VAFA in 2018. With 200 registered players this year, that number is expected to again grow next year.
The club is currently accepting applications for the role of senior coach for the 2018 season – more details can be found here >
Details on pre-season training will be announced in the coming months and we welcome everyone to the Boss to be a part of what we hope will be a successful 2018 campaign.
